what we do

Environmental Assesment,
Investigation and Engineering

Environmental assessment, investigation, and engineering are foundational to guiding all subsequent decisions in our projects at KEMRON. Our detailed investigations are critical for accurately defining environmental liabilities and understanding potential risks. This allows us to quantify these risks effectively and develop predictive models to mitigate them.

The insights gained from our investigative phase empower us to design cost-effective solutions for environmental remediation and mitigation. Our clients rely on our extensive technical expertise, regulatory knowledge and deep industry experience for both comprehensive remediation designs and standalone investigative services. We aim to minimize environmental liabilities and reduce remediation costs, which is central to our approach.

At KEMRON, our team of dedicated professionals, including engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, risk assessors, environmental scientists, forms the backbone of our environmental services. These Subject Matter Experts bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, ensuring that all project decisions are informed by thorough and accurate environmental characterizations.

Our geologists and hydrogeologists play a critical role in site assessments, employing advanced techniques to understand subsurface conditions and groundwater flow dynamics. This expertise is crucial for identifying and quantifying environmental liabilities accurately.

Risk assessors within our team evaluate potential hazards, providing the data needed to model risks effectively. This allows for the implementation of strategies that mitigate potential impacts efficiently and sustainably.

Our engineers design solutions that are not only cost-effective but also compliant with all relevant regulations. They work closely with the rest of the team to ensure that remediation and mitigation strategies are seamlessly integrated into overall project planning.

KEMRON’s approach is to identity, mitigate, or minimize environmental liabilities and reducing remediation costs. Our track record speaks to a combination of thoroughness, accuracy, sophistication, and affordability, providing our customers with value-added services.

Site Remediation

KEMRON excels in providing comprehensive site remediation services, focusing primarily on addressing contamination through a range of specialized removal and remedial actions. We offer a self-perform model for remediation projects, including system excavation, capping, in-situ and ex-situ remediation, decontamination, demolition, groundwater treatment, construction, and long-term operations and maintenance. Our expertise is particularly robust in managing CERCLA (Superfund) and RCRA sites, as well as state environmental regulator programs, where our goal is always to close sites effectively, thereby limiting our customers’ future liabilities.

Our team’s multi-disciplinary approach includes civil, geotechnical, environmental, and chemical engineering, ensuring that we can address a wide array of contaminants across air, water, wastewater, hazardous, and low-level radioactive waste treatment and disposal scenarios. KEMRON’s commitment extends beyond mere compliance, aiming to significantly reduce long-term environmental impact and financial costs for our clients.

While our core focus remains on remediation, we also engage in environmental restoration projects. These projects enhance the natural functionality of ecosystems, particularly in waterways and wetlands, which play essential roles in maintaining biodiversity, water quality, and flood management.

KEMRON’s remediation strategies are tailored to achieve site closure and reduce liabilities, reflecting our commitment to environmental stewardship and client satisfaction.

We also offer a full range of emergency response services, which are designed to provide prompt, effective action across a wide array of situations. Available in the eastern United States, our team is adept at managing spills, accidents, fires, natural disasters, site abandonments, unexploded ordnance, and biological weapons contamination.

As an Emergency Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor for the USEPA for nearly 25 years, and with OSRO certification from the United States Coast Guard, KEMRON is well-equipped and experienced to handle complex emergency scenarios.

Integral to our field operations, KEMRON’s field and construction services personnel are crucial in implementing our remediation and restoration strategies. This dedicated team includes qualified site superintendents, equipment operators, foremen, field technicians, and drivers, all trained to handle the complexities of on-site work. Their expertise ensures that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and effectively, adhering to the highest standards of quality and environmental compliance.  Additionally, we offer an inventory of over $10M in heavy construction equipment, mobile treatment systems, and in-situ capabilities.

Munitions Response

At KEMRON, we are committed to delivering comprehensive munitions response services, addressing the safety and environmental challenges of handling ordnance and related materials across a variety of active and former military sites as well as private sector sites. Our capabilities extend to locating, identifying, mapping, removing, and disposing of unexploded ordnance (UXO), munitions and explosives of concern (MEC), and stockpiled munitions on both land and water environments.

Alongside our broad range of services, KEMRON offers specialized support under the Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) as guided by CERCLA and RCRA frameworks. This includes projects where munitions response is integrated with environmental restoration efforts, such as addressing hazardous, toxic, and radioactive waste (HTRW) at sites where these issues coexist with munitions concerns. By aligning our operations, we ensure thorough compliance with federal environmental laws, enhancing the safety and sustainability of military site cleanups.

Our range maintenance and management program supports the reduction and recycling of surplus military equipment, targets, and related range support materials. Moreover, KEMRON provides comprehensive demilitarization and disposal services that include the full spectrum of range services and maintenance. From the development of Memoranda of Agreement/Understanding (MOA/MOU) through to the removal of any UXO and hazardous materials, complete demilitarization of range targets, and certification of destruction, our approach maximizes the salvage value of materials, enabling a cost-effective resolution for our clients.

Treatability Studies

KEMRON’s Treatability Laboratory, known as the Applied Technologies Group (ATG), has more than 40 years of experience in guiding our clients through the complexities of environmental treatment strategies utilizing a tiered approach to treatability studies that include laboratory screening, bench-scale testing, and pilot-scale testing. We specialize in assessing the viability and effectiveness of treatment technologies for hazardous and non-hazardous substances covering a wide range of materials including soils, sludges, sediments, and oily wastes.

Our approach is designed to deliver comprehensive solutions that are both cost-effective and regulatory compliant. We start with laboratory screening to quickly evaluate the potential of a technology for waste treatment and progress to bench-scale testing which provides a deeper dive into the technology’s ability to meet specific cleanup goals. The process can be expanded to pilot-scale testing where we gather detailed performance, cost, and design data necessary for full-scale implementation.

At KEMRON, we maintain a strict policy of independence in our reviews providing unbiased evaluations of each technology and methodology. This independence ensures that our clients receive transparent, objective, and accurate assessments that truly reflect the best interests of their projects and environmental responsibilities.

KEMRON’s ATG also features a specialized materials testing laboratory which is equipped to handle physical and geotechnical testing of a diverse array of material types. Additionally, we are able to test hazardous materials such as tar sludge, process wastes, per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), tarry and oily materials, and other low-solids or contaminated substances.

For clients seeking reliable and effective environmental solutions, KEMRON offers a proven track record and a robust framework for managing and implementing treatability studies at every level of investigation backed by our commitment to independent and objective evaluations.
